Dress Me Up Campaign

An initiative to raise money for charity, has been setup for London fashionistas  giving them an opportunity to wear dresses of stars like Scarlett Johansson, Freida Pinto. The “dress me up campaign” is set to raise much money for charitable causes. Bad luck for the guys, who might have wanted to get their hands on the famous Liberty designed trench coat for London’s 25th anniversary!

Valentino raised funds for cancer research, by donating 10 percent of all sales from Nov. 4 to Nov. 8. It certainly gets into the minds of the consumer as they give more generously, and in a way is the emotional leverage needed to clinch a sale, it is all for a good cause.

Mod styles are the greatest example of fashion’s evolution. Also, highlights the impact the 1950’s had on contemporary fashions. The greatest band, The Beatles famously arrived at their auditions wearing mod style suits, strting a generation of mod followers. Oasis are the modern day exponents of Mod Style, and Liam Gallacher’s Pretty-Green website displays some stylish ranges.

As designer clothing goes, you cannot get more original than recycled tops. The range of tees and hooded tops by playback clothing is simply awesome. The concept of designing clothing from recycled bottles is simply inspired. The mens tees market has always focussed on the designs and prints. Hats off to this unique fashion label. There is an eco design fair in London thios weekend which is expected to have many visits. This is great news for eco campsigners and fashionman definitely approves!

Classic Tees

Tees are classic wear, no frills and spills just out there and cool. You don’t have to be Jlo to carry off this look. The look does what is says on the Tee. Tees are a favourite, so much of my wardrobe is full of classic tees,  this one really caught my eye on CrazyHotClothes and actually reminds me of a time in the mid nineties when T shirts were seen everywhere. This is one of many vintage styles available on a fabulous online store.

The Suit

There has been an evolution of men’s suits, the categories were very smart previously, the mourning suit, the night out suit, hard days night suit. One of the underplayed suits is the women’s suit. It appeared in conjunction with the feminist movement’s into the work place. The power suit, as it might otherwise be known has taken different forms, essentially the styles have larger shoulder pads, and bolder patterns, striped suits with plain shirts.

The fundamental component, the suit would match, contemporary styles feature suits which are dressdown versions of these power suits. They have tweed jackets, men’s blazers, and even women’s blazers which made a big impact when they first appeared.

Fashion’s Primetime

Preppy Clothing

The evolution of fashion began to speed up in the 1980’s after the “Preppy Handbook” was published. The popularity of  tighter fits, striped and checked shirts, blue blazers, tweed jackets, preppy sweaters became the fashion staple for men and women.

Traditions play their part in fashion and the preppy look became synoymous with East Hampton chino wearing elite of the Upper East Side.  Around the 1950’s clothing was cut closer, shoulder pads dissapeared and people wore slimmer, tighter. The Madmen tv series best displays this phenomenon, the men dress in skin tight suits.

Preppy started the shift towards bolder fashions, what people wore was very pivotal to their success and standing in their lives. The image of the New Haven man dressed for leisure represented a lifestyle that was both desirable and attainable. Men wore casual shirts which were stylish like never before.

Many were fooled though by this image as the ultimate social status, but it wasn’t necessarily where the preppy look originated. The evolution has led to a time where casual shirts and rugger shirts are back in fashion.

Dannii On Fashion TV

The fashion world is a better place this week as UK museums have acquired 9 Vionnet dresses to preserve the work of a vintage fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet.  These styles were worn by Dannii Minogue, who has graced the Xfactor  stage with some stylish vintage dresses! designer dress

She has made the effort every week, and it shows in her collaboration with Miss Minogue senior, who is the more stylish of these two siblings? I anticipate Miss Minogue will wear this style at the final week of the show.
